It was time for Janel McCarville's jersey be retired.
The Gophers honored her and raised the No. 4 to the rafters at Williams Arena on Sunday. Following the ceremony, Minnesota dispatched of a tough UC-Davis team, 76-67.
He's the seventh player in program history to receive this accolade.
"I think that we all felt like it was time," head coach and former teammate Lindsey Whalen said after the game. "We all did what we had to do to get it up there. She's where she belongs."
McCarville helped lead the Gophers to the Final Four on two occasions. Following her career in Minnesota, she was selected first overall by the Charlotte Sting in the 2005 WNBA Draft.
On Saturday for the Gophers, Gadiva Hubbard led the team in scoring with 24 points.
They moved to 9-1 on the season and face Lehigh at home next Saturday.
