Twins acquire outfielder Manuel Margot in trade with Dodgers

Margot has played eight MLB seasons, mostly in center field.

MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Twins appear to be adding to their outfield depth chart following a trade Monday with the Los Angeles Dodgers.

The Twins will receive outfielder Manuel Margot, minor league infielder Rayne Doncon and cash from the Los Angeles Dodgers in exchange for infield prospect Noah Miller, the team confirmed Monday.

Margot, 29,  has played eight MLB seasons with San Diego and Tampa Bay, and had just joined the Dodgers in the offseason. His career stats include a .255 batting average with 52 home runs and 283 RBI.

Margot has largely played center field over his career, and could be seen as backup option for Byron Buxton in that position for the Twins. However, Buxton has said he's feeling good and ready to return to the field after an injury-riddled 2023 regular season that kept him limited to DH duty when not on the disabled list.

Before the trade, the Twins 40-man roster included six potential outfielders in addition to Buxton: veteran Max Kepler, Matt Wallner, Willi Castro, Alex Kiriloff, Trevor Larnach and Emmanuel Rodriguez. The Twins placed pitcher Josh Winder on the 60-day injured list to make room for Margot on the 40-man roster.
