Royce returns! Twins get Lewis back for big Yankees series

Royce Lewis has been sidelined since the March 28 Opening Day when he suffered a strained right quad.

NEW YORK — Just in time for a big series, a big bat will be back in the Minnesota Twins lineup.

The team announced the return of Royce Lewis as the Twins take on the New York Yankees for a 3-game series that starts at 6:05 p.m. Tuesday in Yankee Stadium.

Lewis has been sidelined since the March 28 Opening Day when he suffered a strained right quad.

Lewis, who turns 25 on Wednesday, sustained the injury while rounding the bases in the third inning, after going 2-for-2 with a home run and a single.

Lewis played in six games on rehab assignment with Triple-A St. Paul going 4-for-23 (.174) with one double, one walk, one stolen base and three runs scored for the St. Paul Saints.

Lewis has played in 71 career major league regular season games, hitting .313 (81-for-259) with 11 doubles, 18 home runs, 58 RBI and 42 runs scored.

The Twins are sitting in third place in the Central standings, six games behind the league-leading Cleveland Guardians and two games behind the second-place Kansas City Royals.

To make room for Lewis, infielder Edouard Julien was optioned to St. Paul after Sunday afternoon's game. Julien, who has been struggling at the plate, played in 58 games this season, hitting .207 (35-for-169) with six doubles, seven home runs, 17 RBI, 24 runs scored, 24 walks and 66 strikeouts.
