Twins move July 4 game up to avoid expected storms

With scattered showers in the forecast for Thursday afternoon, the organization said first pitch will now happen an hour earlier than scheduled, at 12:10 p.m.

MINNEAPOLIS — Celebrating America with the Minnesota Twins and 40,000 of their closest compatriots this year? If so, you're now invited to get the party in the USA started even earlier than planned.

With scattered showers in the forecast for Thursday afternoon, the organization said the first pitch will now happen an hour earlier than scheduled, at 12:10 p.m.

A Twins spokesperson also said in a statement Wednesday that fans can enter Target Field beginning at 10:30 a.m.

Thursday's game comes at the tail-end of a three-game series against the Detroit Tigers and ahead of another three-game homestand against the Houston Astros.

The upcoming run against the Astros, who knocked the Twins out of the playoffs last year after winning the best-of-five American League Division Series, comes during a Minnesota-style winning streak, having topped their opponents seven times in the last 10 games and recorded a 20-game — and still counting — homerun campaign.
