'A young man with a dream': KAT thanks Wolves, fans after official trade announcement

It's officially official: Timberwolves star center-forward Karl-Anthony Towns is changing his home court from the Target Center to Madison Square Garden next season.

MINNEAPOLIS — A week and a half after Timberwolves fans first heard about the reported deal to send star center-forward Karl-Anthony Towns to the New York Knicks, the team dealt its final blow Wednesday.

"The Minnesota Timberwolves today announced the team has acquired forward Keita Bates-Diop, guard Donte DiVincenzo, forward Julius Randle and a first round pick (via the Detroit Pistons) from the New York Knicks in exchange for forward/center Karl-Anthony Towns," read a statement posted to the team's website.

The Wolves followed up a short time later on X, thanking KAT for everything he's done — on and off the court — for Minnesota.

Shortly after the team's announcement, Towns publicly addressed the trade in a social media post, thanking the organization and the people of Minnesota.

"You’ll always hold a special place in my heart. Thank you for everything."

The trade comes after last year's historic season, in which the Wolves played in the Western Conference Finals for the first time in two decades. As part of that 2023-2024 squad, Towns averaged 22.9 points per game, while shooting nearly 40% (39.8%) from behind the arc.

KAT's been in Minnesota for the long haul, playing with the Wolves since being drafted in 2015.
