Timberwolves coach Chris Finch signs multi-year contract extension

Word of the reported deal comes after Finch led the Wolves to the NBA Western Conference Finals for only the second time in franchise history.

MINNEAPOLIS — Minnesota Timberwolves coach Chris Finch is sticking around for a while, after agreeing to a multi-year contract extension with the team, the Timberwolves confirmed Monday evening.

While the Wolves did not disclose details, a report from ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski said Finch agreed to a four-year contract extension through 2027-28.

The deal comes just weeks after Finch led the Timberwolves to the NBA Western Conference finals for just the second time in franchise history.

“Chris is a wonderful coach, and an even better person,” said Timberwolves President of Basketball Operations Tim Connelly, in a statement. “We are thrilled that he is being rewarded with a well-earned extension. Under his guidance the team has improved every year, he’s the perfect leader for our organization.”

"I'd like to thank Glen, Becky, and the entire organization for their continued support and commitment to me and the team," said Finch, in a statement. "I'm proud of the way we've been able to establish a great culture here with the Timberwolves and I look forward to continuing to lead this organization and make our fans proud."

Finch joined the Timberwolves midway through the 2020-21 season, tallying a 160-127 overall record and leading the team to three consecutive playoff appearances. The most recent playoff run put Finch in an unusual position of coaching from the bench, after suffering a knee injury when Mike Conley crashed into him during the first round of the playoffs.
