MINNEAPOLIS — The Minnesota Timberwolves are acquiring a point guard right at the NBA trade deadline.

The team is sending Shake Milton, Troy Brown Jr. and a second-round draft pick to the Detroit Pistons for Monte Morris, according to The Athletic's NBA Insider Shams Charania.

Morris was a second-round draft pick out of Iowa State by the Denver Nuggets in 2017. He spent the majority his seven-year career with the Nuggets before he was traded to the Washington Wizards in 2022 and then to the Pistons in 2023.

His best season came in 2021-22 season when he averaged 29.9 minutes per game with 12.6 points, while shooting 48.4% from the field and 39.5% from beyond the arc.

Perhaps the most important number for the Timberwolves is his 0.8 turnovers per game in his career. The team is averaging 15 turnovers per game, which has allowed multiple teams to stage and complete comebacks against them.

Both Troy Brown Jr. and Shake Milton were offseason acquisitions for the Wolves, who had seen their play diminish as the season progressed.
