MINNEAPOLIS — Karl-Anthony Towns' illustrious career with the Minnesota Timberwolves has ended, according to reports.

The Wolves traded their former #1 overall pick to the New York Knicks for Julius Randle, Donte DiVincenzo, and a first-round pick via Detroit, according to NBA Insider Shams Charania.

The Wolves elected to shake up their core just weeks before the NBA season kicks off.

Towns provided the Wolves with elite three-point shooting and was a pivotal player for the team in its divisional series against the Denver Nuggets in last season's playoffs.

Towns shared a post on X as the news began to break:

As part of the Timberwolves team that reached a level of success not seen in the franchise's last decade, Towns averaged 22.9 points per game, while shooting nearly 40% (39.8%) from behind the arc.

The 7-foot center-forward had played his entire career with the Wolves after being drafted in 2015.

Other than his basketball accolades, which include four NBA All-Star appearances, Towns is known for his off-court work as well.  After advocating for voting rights, Towns was named the 2023-24 NBA Social Justice Champion.

In return for KAT, the Wolves are welcoming Randle and DiVincenzo.

Randle has averaged 19.1 points per game on 47% from the field in his career so far.  Randle has made three NBA All-Star Game appearances.

DiVincenzo, who plays the shooting guard position, has averaged 10.6 points per game on 42.8% from the field. He knocked down just over 40% of the three-point shots he took last season.

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information becomes available.
