MINNEAPOLIS — After Thursday night's dismantling of the defending national champions, the Minnesota Timberwolves have extended the series to a Game 7.
The game tips off at 7 p.m. Sunday, marking just the second-ever Game 7 in Wolves franchise history. The last time it happened was back in 2004 when Minnesota edged Sacramento 83-80 — exactly 20 years (May 19, 2004) from Sunday. Oh, and by the way, May 19 is also Wolves legend Kevin Garnett's birthday.
Minnesota has won twice in Denver this series, however, the Nuggets looked more like a team defending a national title the last time the game tipped off in the Mile High City. Nikola Jokic was awarded his third MVP trophy by Commissioner Adam Silver during a pregame ceremony and then proceeded to drop 40 points to help the Nuggets cruise to a 112-97 victory.
The Wolves had their own response Thursday night before a raucous crowd at the Target Center. Anthony Edwards scored 27 points to stop a three-game skid and send the series to a decisive Game 7 in Denver.
