EAGAN, Minn — The Minnesota Vikings and the Houston Texans have made another off-season exchange but this time it's not players -- it's draft picks.
The Vikings are getting the Texans' 23rd overall pick in this year's draft -- loading up the Vikes with two first-rounders.
Minnesota is giving up its second-round pick, a seventh-round pick, and a second-round pick in 2025.
The Vikings also acquired a seventh-rounder from Houston in the deal.
Since Kirk Cousins signed his four-year, $180 million deal with the Atlanta Falcons, the growing speculation is that the Vikings would move up in the draft to take one of the coveted quarterbacks: USC's Caleb Williams, North Carolina's Drake Maye or LSU's Jayden Daniels.
Now the team MIGHT have the ammunition to do it.
Earlier this week, Minnesota and Houston "basically" exchanged defensive playmakers -- with the Vikings getting DE Jonathan Greenard and LB Blake Cashman from the Texans. Meanwhile, Houston's got the Vikes' four-time Pro Bowler Danielle Hunter.
Currently, the most likely quarterback the Vikings will start under center is the newly acquired Sam Darnold from the San Francisco 49ers. But you can bet he will have more competition following the draft which is Thursday, April 25 to Saturday, April 27 in Detroit.
Here's the deal:
Vikings get
- 23rd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
- 232nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
Texans get
- 42nd overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
- 188th overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft
- Vikings second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft
