EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings announced Friday that starting Vikings linebacker Todd Davis has been place on the COVID-19 reserve list, and is out for Sunday's game against the Packers.

The COVID-19 reserve list is for a player who has tested positive for the virus, or has been quarantined after being in close contact with someone who is infected.

Davis, formerly of the Denver Broncos, signed with the Vikings earlier this year to beef up a depleted linebacking corps. Despite dealing with injuries, he has been a starter the past two games.

PFT reports that Davis will be replaced in the starting lineup by Troy Dye, a rookie returning from the injured reserve list following a foot injury. At this point the Vikings only have four linebackers on the active roster.

Rookie cornerback Cam Dantzler was also placed on the COVID-19 reserve list this week, making him unlikely to play against the Packers. With both starting corners Holton Hill and Mike Hughes out, Sunday will be an uphill battle against Packers QB Aaron Rodgers, who ranks first in the NFL with a 85.6 quarterback rating, and third in touchdowns with 17.

The Vikings also announced Friday that Hughes has been placed on injured reserve, meaning (according to 2020 rules) after three weeks he will be eligible to return to practice. Once Hughes returns to practice, the team will have 21 days to place him back on the active roster.

With their lack of depth in the secondary, the Vikings signed safety Curtis Riley to the active roster. Riley spent NFL weeks two through seven with the Arizona Cardinals, and has also spent time on the rosters of the Tennessee Titans, New York Giants, Las Vegas Raiders and Pittsburgh Steelers.
