MINNEAPOLIS — The quarterback carousel continues for the Minnesota Vikings.

Vikings Head Coach Kevin O'Connell announced the team will turn back to Nick Mullens to lead the team against the Detroit Lions on Sunday.

Mullens, much like the other three reserve quarterbacks for the team, has played off and on throughout the season.

Rookie QB Jaren Hall was given the starting job against the Green Bay Packers in a pivotal Week 17 tilt but was benched at halftime after struggling through the game's first two quarters.

Mullens entered the game after the halftime break and was more successful in moving the offense down the field, but was ultimately unable to pull the Vikings back into the game.

Mullens has thrown for 910 yards, five touchdowns and six interceptions this year. The Vikings season likely won't extend into the playoffs, but the team isn't eliminated from postseason contention just yet.

For the Vikings to make the playoffs, they need to beat the Lions AND for the Atlanta Falcons to beat the New Orleans Saints, the Chicago Bears to beat the Green Bay Packers AND the Arizona Cardinals to beat the Seattle Seahawks, according to the New York Times playoff simulator
