INGLEWOOD, Calif. — The Griddy is headed to Netflix.
Following the massive success of "Quarterback," the streaming service announced a new eight-episode documentary series that will once again give viewers an in-depth look at some of the league's top stars. This time, however, it will focus on pass catchers, including Minnesota Vikings receiver Justin Jefferson.
The docuseries, which will simply be called "Receiver," will also feature former Green Bay Packers and current Las Vegas Raiders receiver Davante Adams, Detroit receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and San Francisco's Deebo Samuel and George Kittle.
“We are excited to be working again with Netflix and NFL Films to give fans unprecedented access to what it's like to play receiver at the highest level," said Peyton Manning, who will once again work as an executive producer. “As we did with 'Quarterback,' we look forward to telling the stories of five incredible receivers, each with their unique personality, skillset and motivation for what drives them to be the best."
This will be the second straight year the series follows a Vikings player after Kirk Cousins was one of the three quarterbacks featured in "Quarterback," which hit the Netflix Global Top 10 for three weeks last year.
The series provided viewers a look behind the curtain of Cousins, Patrick Mahomes and Marcus Mariota's life throughout the 2022-23 season. It highlighted all the ups and downs of Vikings' season, including their dramatic comeback victory over the Indianapolis Colts and the heartbreaking defeat to the New York Giants in the opening round of the playoffs.
"Receiver" will give viewers a peek at what happened behind closed doors during the 2023-24 season. Once again, the Vikings provided plenty of storylines throughout the season, including Jefferson's hamstring injury, Cousins' torn Achilles and the rise and fall of the "passtronaut."
The Raiders dealt with their own struggles, resulting in the firing of head coach Josh McDaniels midseason, while the Lions returned to the NFC Championship for the first time since 1991. Samuel and Kittle's 49ers went on to end the Lions' run before losing an overtime thriller in the Super Bowl to the Kansas City Chiefs.
The series will be released this summer.
