EAGAN, Minn. — Minnesota Vikings tight end T.J. Hockenson had surgery Monday to repair an ACL he tore during a game against the Detroit Lions in late December.
The team confirmed the procedure, calling it "successful," but didn't provide a timeline for his recovery.
Hockenson left in their game on Dec. 24 after getting tackled in the third quarter. The former All-Pro was helped off the field and quickly ruled out for the remainder of the game. Hockenson struggled with drops at times early this season, but rebounded to become one of Minnesota's more reliable targets down the stretch. He finished with a team-high 95 receptions, and his 960 receiving yards was second only to star receiver Justin Jefferson (1,074).
While it's unclear who will be throwing passes for the Vikings — quarterback Kirk Cousins' contract is set to void in March, making him a free agent — having Hockenson on the field will certainly help whomever is at the helm.
