Vikings sign former Packers' RB Aaron Jones

NFL insider Diana Russini said the multi-tool back is expected to sign a one-year, prove-it deal for $7 million.

EAGAN, Minn. — The Minnesota Vikings did not have to look far to fill the gaping hole in their offense at running back.

Aaron Jones, who was released from the Green Bay Packers, has agreed to terms with the Vikings.

ESPN's Diana Russini is reporting that Jones is doing a one-year deal for $7 million.

Jones has spent seven years with the Packers, piling up 5,940 rushing yards and 45 touchdowns, The Athletic reported. He is also a skilled receiver who will be a valuable tool for a quarterback with less experience than the departed Kirk Cousins. The Vikings are expected to sign the San Francisco 49er's backup quarterback Sam Darnold to a one-year deal worth up to $10 million, according to multiple sources.

The Minnesota Vikings are shaking up their lineup as Cousins departed for a four-year, $180 million contract with the Atlanta Falcons. The Purple and Gold are also beefing up their defense in the early stages of free agency, adding edge rusher Jonathan Greenard and linebackers Blake Cashman and Andrew Van Ginkel to bolster their offense.
