Wild confirms investigations into alleged 'code of conduct' violations

The Athletic's Michael Russo reports that one of the investigations involves allegations of abusive behavior against GM Bill Guerin.

ST PAUL, Minn. — The Minnesota Wild recently concluded two investigations into alleged violations of the club's code of conduct, and the organization said Thursday it took “appropriate steps” to address matters that were brought to its attention.

The Athletic reported that Bill Guerin was the focus of an investigation following a complaint by an employee accusing the team’s president of hockey operations and GM of verbal abuse. Beat writer Michael Russo's report said anonymous team sources revealed that the employee who filed the complaint against Guerin was Andrew Heydt, the Wild’s director of team operations and player relations. Heydt has been in that position for 10 years and oversees team travel, logistics, and player and alumni relations.

Russo reported that Heydt has been absent from work the past couple of days after traveling with the team on its most recent road trip and shared that in his role, Heydt interacts with Guerin on an almost daily basis.

NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly said in an email to the Star Tribune that the league was satisfied with how the Wild handled the situation. The Wild said they would have no further comment and made no mention of Guerin's name in the team statement.

It has been a rough start to the season for Minnesota, which improved to 11-12-4 with a 3-2 shootout win over Calgary on Thursday night. Head coach Dean Evason was dismissed on Nov. 27 and replaced by NHL veteran John Hynes.

Assistant General Manager Chris O'Hearn left the organization earlier this week by mutual agreement with the Wild.
