Wild goalie Filip Gustavsson placed on IR

The 25-year-old netminder left Saturday's game against the Winnipeg Jets after the second period with a lower-body injury.

ST PAUL, Minn. — The Gus Bus will be out of commission for a while after the Minnesota Wild announced Monday that they've placed Filip Gustavsson on injured reserve.

The 25-year-old netminder left Saturday's game against the Winnipeg Jets after the second period with a lower-body injury. Marc-André Fleury finished out the game and started in net Sunday for his 1,000th career game. He's just the fourth goalie in history to appear in 1,000 games.

Gustavsson has been the Wild's top goaltender this season, posting a 10-9-2 record with a 2.96 goals-against average and a save percentage of .903. The Wild were on a roll before their home-and-home series with the Jets, and Gustavsson was a big reason why. Entering Saturday's contest, Gustavsson had gone 8-2 over his previous 10 games with a 1.90 GAA and a .932 save percentage.

The Wild will now lean on 39-year-old Fleury, who is just one win shy of tying Patrick Roy for most career victories by a goalie. This season, Fleury is 6-6-2 with a 3.16 GAA and a saver percentage of .893.

Prior to Sunday's game, the Wild recalled goalie Zane McIntyre from Iowa to back up Fleury. McIntyre has had a rough year between the pipes as he's 1-8-2 with a 3.54 GAA and a .884 save percentage. Jesper Wallstedt, a 21-year-old prospect, has been steady in goal for Iowa this season — 11-7-0 record, 2.43 GAA, .922 save percentage — but he's also recovering from a lower-body injury.
