PARIS, France — Sunday was certainly memorable for Dakotah Lindwurm.
After winning the Grandma's Marathon twice and finishing third at the U.S. Marathon Trials, the St. Francis native was finally competing on the Olympic stage.
She went on to lead the Americans in the women's marathon competition by finishing 12th with a time of 2:26:44. However, the fireworks didn't end there. She also got engaged.
The two-time NCAA Division II All-American made the announcement with a photo of the newly engaged couple standing in front of the Eiffel Tower.
"Officially an Olympian. Officially a fiancée. 12th place. Feels a little bittersweet," Lindwurm posted on Instagram. "More to come tomorrow, right now it’s time to celebrate."
Lindwurm's day began by pacing the women's marathon team after finishing less than four minutes behind gold winner Sifan Hassan of the Netherlands. Hassan finished the course in 2:22:55, setting a new Olympic record.
