PARIS, France — A Minnesota man continues to prove he's one of the fastest in the world.

Joseph Fahnbulleh, a 22-year-old graduate of Hopkins High School, finished seventh in the men's 200 meters at the Paris Olympics on Thursday, running for his family's native country of Liberia.

Fahnbulleh's time was 20.15, less than half a second behind first-place finisher Letsile Tebogo of Botswana.

Fahnbulleh, born on Sept. 11, 2001, won two Minnesota state track and field titles at Hopkins in 2018 and 2019; he also helped set a high school state record in the 4x200m relay with Hopkins that still stands today. Fahnbulleh went on to a successful collegiate track career, becoming the NCAA outdoor champion in the 100 meters in 2022 and a two-time champion in the 200 meters (2021 and 2022) while running for the Florida Gators.

Paris marks Fahnbulleh's second Olympics and second final in the event; he finished fifth in the men's 200 meters at the Tokyo Olympics and set a new Liberian national record.

Fahnbulleh also ran with Liberia in the men's 4x100m relay at the Paris Olympics alongside two other Minnesotans: Emmanuel Matadi, a St. Paul Johnson grad, and Jabez Reeves, a sprinter for Minnesota State-Mankato; however, the team did not advance to the finals.
