PARIS, France — Fresh off her silver in the 100-meter backstroke, Regan Smith will return to the pool for the 200-meter butterfly.
The Lakeville native is one of several athletes with Minnesota ties competing Wednesday in Paris, including Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards and the United States men's basketball team.

Lakeville's Regan Smith is one of the favorites once again in the 200m butterfly, an event where she captured the silver medal in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Smith set the American record in the event back in June, and will certainly have her eyes on another podium finish.

Maddie Zimmer
6:15 a.m. CT — Women's field hockey: USA vs. Australia (E!)
Owatonna native Maddie Zimmer will take the field as the United States continues pool play against Australia. So far, the U.S. is 0-1-1 with a loss to Argentina and a draw with Spain.
Zimmer was born in Owatonna before moving to Hershey, Pennsylvania, where she grew up.
This is Zimmer's first time competing in the Olympics after helping an impressive collegiate career at Northwestern, where she was named a two-time First-Team All-American, three-time All-Big Ten and the 2020-21 Freshman of the Year.

Jordan Thompson
10 a.m. CT — Women's volleyball: USA vs. Serbia (USA)
Edina native Jordan Thompson and the U.S. women's volleyball team will look to bounce back from Monday's loss with a match against Serbia. Team USA lost in five sets to China, so getting rebounding with a victory will go a long way in the U.S. advancing.
This is Thompson's second Olympics after helping Team USA to a gold medal in the 2020 Tokyo Games.

Anthony Edwards
2 p.m. CT — Men's basketball: USA vs. South Sudan (USA)
Minnesota Timberwolves guard Anthony Edwards had 11 points to help the U.S. men's basketball team cruise past Serbia 110-84 Sunday, but they could have their hands full against a promising South Sudan team on Wednesday.
South Sudan is a promising squad and pushed the U.S. to the brink in an exhibition on July 20. The U.S. narrowly won 101-100, but it sets up for a intriguing matchup in Wednesday's pool play.
