PARIS, France — Team USA swimmer Regan Smith came away with her third silver medal of this Olympic Games, finishing just behind Australia's Kaylee McKeown who set a new Olympic record Friday in the women's 200-meter backstroke.

Smith finished second with a time of 2:04.26, less than a second after McKeown hit the touchpad at 2:03.73. Canada's Kylie Masse filled the last spot on the podium, winning bronze with a time of 2:05.57.

Friday's backstroke final came a day after Smith picked up a silver in the women's 100-meter butterfly. Earlier this week, she was awarded her first medal in Paris after again narrowly losing to McKeown in the 100-meter backstroke.

Smith, a Lakeville native, now has a total of six Olympic medals in her career — five silver and one bronze.

Friday's race marked Smith's last individual event of the 2024 Olympic Games.
