Visitors flock to Minneapolis from around the world for Olympic Trials

Downtown Minneapolis filled up Thursday evening as the Olympic Trials began.

MINNEAPOLIS — Thousands are in the Twin Cities to see the best gymnasts in the world.

On Thursday, fans flocked to Target Center for the first day of the trials.

Among them was a gymnastics inclusion group from Atlanta, Cattooga. Dana Misitano was particularly excited to see Simone Biles.

"I'll be star-struck," she said. "Gymnastics builds confidence and courage."

Multiple events are scheduled in the Twin Cities, including the Promenade du Nord at Nicollet Mall, the Flip Zone between Target Center and Target Field.

Willy Black took his family to Target Field for the kids to practice their gymnastics.

"We've seen this earlier today on the news and I said I had to get the kids down here," said Black. "We got to take pictures, got their hair all dolled up, it was a great experience."

The Flip Zone is the 'official fan fest of Gymnastics City USA.' It offers a 20-foot Free Fall Jump, a parkour course, musical performances, athlete appearances, watch parties and more. It is free and open to all fans.
