ISANTI COUNTY, Minn. — Two horses are on solid terra firma Thursday, after an adventure they'd probably rather forget.
Isanti County deputies were dispatched Wednesday night just before 6 p.m. on reports of horses stuck in a swampy area of Wayside Prairie Park in rural Bradford Township. When they arrived first responders found the animals buried in muck up to their necks.
Because of the remote nature of where the incident occurred, Isanti County Safety and Rescue crews had to improvise and use wide straps to get under the animals. Then, it was just a bunch of good old fashioned muscle, courtesy of the rescue experts and volunteers who showed up on the scene.
"We are happy to report that both horses and the owners, though visibly exhausted were happy to be out of the swamp and able to walk back to the solid ground on their own!," read a post on the Isanti Fire District Facebook page.
"Today was a great example of teamwork from some of our service partners from Isanti County Safety and Rescue, as well as some other good neighbors that helped us assure a positive outcome for an abnormal request. We are lucky to have so many horse lovers around our community that are willing to help out!"
Just one challenge remains... rescuers are asking if anyone has any good hacks on how to get the swamp smell out of their boots.
