ST PAUL, Minn. — One person's loss is another's gain when the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) holds a pair of online auctions to liquidate hunting, fishing and trapping equipment confiscated after serious fish and game violations.

The auctions are scheduled for Aug. 26 and Oct. 7 online via the Hiller Auction Service website. Bidding opens at 8 a.m. Aug. 23 for the first auction, and at 8 a.m. Oct. 4 for the second. Up for sale to the highest bidder are handguns, rifles, bows, tree stands, fishing gear and other assorted equipment.

A final listing of items available for each auction will be posted on the site four days beforehand (Aug. 22 and Oct. 3). The listing for each item will include both photos and a written description.

Those who would like to inspect the items in person before bidding can do so between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m. on Aug. 23 and Oct. 4 at Hiller Auction Service in Zimmerman.

All items up for auction will be sold as-is, and once purchased cannot be returned. Anyone who successfully bids for a firearm will be subject to a federal background check in person when picking up and paying for the item.

Check out the DNR Enforcement Auction page for more details.
