PWHL Minnesota game on Feb. 27 moves from 'X' to Mariucci

While emails announcing the game don't specify a reason for the venue change, the Xcel Energy Center calendar lists a home game for the Wild that evening.

Fans of the PWHL Minnesota will put a new spin on the new league's hockey experience on Feb, 27, when the club's home game against Toronto moves from Xcel Energy Center to Mariucci Arena on the U of M campus.

The game was listed as TBA, but on Monday it was confirmed that the tilt against Toronto will be played at the 10,000-seat home of the Gopher men's hockey team.

“PWHL Minnesota is excited to continue the rich tradition of hockey played at 3M Arena at Mariucci on the campus of the University of Minnesota,” said Natalie Darwitz, PWHL Minnesota General Manager, and University of Minnesota alumna in a released statement. “We look forward to sharing this experience with our passionate fans.”

Team Minnesota should have no problem feeling comfortable playing on campus, as seven players once skated for the U of M. They are Lauren Bench, Abigail Boreen, Taylor Heise, Amanda Leveille, Kelly Pannek, Lee Stecklein and Grace Zumwinkle.

Tickets go on sale for the Feb. 27 game against Toronto at 2 p.m. on Feb. 15, via the Gopher athletics ticket site.

As of Feb. 12 Minnesota was in second place in the PWHL with a record of 5-2, trailing only Montreal. Both of Minnesota's losses came in overtime.
