Snow leaves St. Paul Saints' opening day in doubt

Will it be a swing and a miss? The CHS Field grounds crew has brought in their heaviest hitters to clear snow from the stadium before Friday.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Baseball season is approaching but it doesn't look like it as Minnesota has over a foot of snow on the ground. The Saint Paul Saints are set to host their home opener this Friday.

"So many great memories, but none of them include snow on the field," Saints Baseball General Manager, Derek Sharrer said.

CHS Field grounds crew are doing what they can to get the job done including using heavy machinery to plow snow off the field. Sharrer says this is a repeat of last season when they struck out twice before finally being able to host the home opener.

"Target Field has the technology to heat the field and it melts snow,"
Sharrer said. "At the time when we opened in 2015, we weren't aware we would ever play baseball in late March."

The Saints didn't become an MLB affiliated team until 2021. Prior to that, their season started in May.

"We are hopeful and certainly going to do everything we can to play ball Friday evening," Sharrer said.

The Saints will make a final decision by the end of the day Thursday on whether to postpone or not.
