MINNEAPOLIS — Twins fans will hear a familiar voice in a new setting this coming MLB season, as longtime radio play-by-play announcer Cory Provus makes the move to television.
The team announced the change Friday, along with the news that longtime studio pre-and-postgame host Kris Attebery will take over the radio play-by-play duties for the Treasure Island Baseball Network in 2024.
Provus takes over the TV gig from Twins broadcasting legend Dick Bremer, who the team announced was stepping away from the announcing booth after 40 years in the business. Bremer will be transitioning into a special assistant's role in the Twins' front office.
In statements both the team and Bremer referred to the change as a "mutual decision" but neither side wanted to do on-camera interviews with KARE 11 when a request was extended.
"Cory and Kris have been integral parts of the soundtrack of spring, summer and fall across Twins Territory for many years and we are thrilled to continue these relationships as they step into their new roles,” said Twins President & CEO Dave St. Peter in a released statement. “The bonds they forge across our organization translate into a storytelling ability that is uniquely theirs; I am supremely confident that both will continue the Twins’ legacy of broadcast excellence.”
Provus has been the voice of Twins radio for the past 12 years after a stint in Milwaukee working with the legendary Bob Uecker. He began his MLB broadcast career with the Chicago Cubs serving as a pre-and-postgame host.
Atteberry has been with the Twins for 17 years, hosting the Pregame Lineup Card and Postgame Download shows and doing fill-in play-by-play work on occasion. Before that he called games on both radio and television for the then-Independent League St. Paul Saints.
The Twins say they will announce more broadcast details for 2024 - including the remainder of the talent lineup and full television and radio broadcast schedules later this offseason.
