MINNEAPOLIS — The University of Minnesota announced Monday it has hired a new head volleyball coach, following the exit of long-time leader Hugh McCutcheon.
U of M Athletics Director Mark Coyle said Keegan Cook will helm the team, which just wrapped its season after falling to Ohio State in the Sweet 16 on Dec. 8. The Gophers were ranked at No. 8 and go into the off-season boasting a winning 22-9 record.
The University says it agreed to a five-year deal with Cook, 37, pending approval by the Board of Regents and a background check. He comes to the U after spending eight years as head coach at the University of Washington, also coaching high school, club and other collegiate teams, and additionally, at the international level with USA volleyball.
"It is an honor to lead a historic program in Minnesota and compete in the best conference in the nation in the Big Ten," said Cook in a statement. "I am looking forward to getting to know the team, the alumni and engaging with the passionate fans and volleyball community in Minnesota. I can't wait to get started."
The Pleasanton, California native led the Washington Huskies to four Pac-12 Championships and eight appearances at the NCAA Tournament during his time as head coach and leaves with a 198-56 record overall.
