EAGAN, Minn. — It appears Marcus Sherels' time with the Minnesota Vikings has come to an end.
Probably.
The Vikings announced they have released the nine-year veteran after re-acquiring him last month when receiver/punt returner Chad Beebe went down with an ankle injury.
Sherels, a longtime punt returner with the Vikings, signed with the Saints last offseason, but was plagued by a hamstring injury that kept him off the field for most of training camp and preseason.
Sherels, a Rochester, Minn. native and a walk-on for the University of Minnesota football team, agreed to an injury settlement with the Saints before returning to the Vikings last month.
Sherels was inactive for Sunday's game against the Detroit Lions and cornerback Mike Hughes took over the punt-returning duties.
In his time with the Vikings, Sherels set a franchise record with five punt returns for touchdowns.
