Vikings and Packer fans prepare for border battle in Green Bay to lead the NFC North

Fans who live near the border of Minnesota and Wisconsin are used to seeing a lot of green and purple jerseys.

Both Vikings and Packers players are preparing for a big border battle this Sunday in Green Bay.

Other than being a tense rivalry, the game could decide who stands on top of the NFC North division.

Fans on both sides are getting ready to cheer on their team.

The Village Inn in Hudson, Wisconsin, is used to seeing fans on both sides of this rivalry.

"We get a lot of Vikings fans and Packer fans over here. During a Packer and Vikings game it’s usually 50-50,” one employee says.

Even though it's officially a Packers bar, owners say they welcome fans who cheer for the Vikings.

Al Wilkie is a Vikings fan living in Hudson.

“I’m a Minnesota guy, but I moved to Hudson Wisconsin 20 years ago, so I’m immersed in Packer fans all the time,” Wilkie says.

Todd Offermann is another local who frequently stops by the Village Inn.

He’s a Packer fan and says he’s still getting used to the idea of being around so many Vikings fans.

“I grew up closer to Lambeau Field and it’s all Packers over there. Here in Hudson, there are Packer fans and Vikings fans and there is definitely a rivalry between them,” Offermann says.

For some Vikings and Packers fans there is even a rivalry in their family.

Joshua Blackburn is a diehard Vikings fan, but he enjoys watching the border battles with his aunt, who loves the Packers.

"It's fun rooting with her and against her sometimes,” Blackburn laughs.

An aunt is one thing, but imagine dating a Packer fan.

"My girlfriend is a Packer fan, I'm a Vikings fan. We make it work,” Vikings fan Gary Ruiz says.

Ruiz stopped by the Vikings team store in Eagan on Friday to look for a new hat and jersey before the game.

He also stopped by the Mall of America to buy a new Packers jersey for his girlfriend.

"We had to go with Jordan Love because he just signed the big contract. He should be around for a few years,” Ruiz says.

His advice to couples who are split is to have fun and not take the rivalry too seriously.

"There are so many highs and lows, but when the Vikings are winning you kind of have to let her be,” Ruiz laughs.

The Vikings and the Packers will take the field in Green Bay at noon on Sunday.
