That's So Minnesota: North Shore's Palisade Head, Split Rock Lighthouse

Ellery McCardle heads way north to check out something she hasn't seen before, and a tourist favorite.

TWO HARBORS, Minn. - You don't have to ask me twice to make the drive to Minnesota's North Shore, especially when the weather is perfect.

Mother Nature gets an applause from me after this past weekend. I call the weather "perfect." because it wasn't too hot, wasn't too cold, sunny and blue sky.

I have to thank our viewers, who, from day one, suggested I go to the North Shore. I especially need to thank one viewer named Larry who suggested I go to Palisade Head. I had never heard of it, but it turned out to be my favorite part of the trip.

This cliff is unforgettable and proves the varied landscape of Minnesota. From the cliff you can see Shovel Point, the Sawtooth Range and on a clear day, 30 miles to the Apostle Islands, according to the Minnesota Historical Society.

A trip up north would not be complete without a stop to Split Rock Lighthouse, one of the most visited and photographed places in Minnesota. After walking to the top of the tower, I then walked the trail to the shore. There were a lot of people on the rocks taking photos, skipping rocks and checking out the iconic view of the lighthouse.

Talk about a peaceful weekend up north. I couldn't have asked for a better way to relax and escape from the hustle and bustle of the work week. Again, thank you everyone for your photo suggestions! I love seeing and showcasing the places you love to visit in Minnesota and western Wisconsin.

I'm planning another trip to the North Shore in the Fall, so where should I go then? Here's how to contact me with you great suggestions:
