HUDSON, Wis. — Authorities say a woman is dead following a two-vehicle collision in western Wisconsin Thursday evening.

The St. Croix County Sheriff's office says squads were dispatched to the intersection of Highway 128 and County Truck Highway in Springfield Township just before 7:15 p.m. Upon arrival deputies found two vehicles, a 2016 Chevy Colorado pickup and a 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix, in the ditch.

Chief Deputy Brent Standaert says the early investigation indicates that the Pontiac, driven by 39-year-old Jessica Peterson of Boyceville, failed to stop at a stop sign at Highway 128 and struck the pickup. Peterson was not wearing a seatbelt and suffered fatal injuries in the crash.

Sheriff's officials say the 54-year-old driver of the pickup was wearing his seatbelt, and was evaluated for minor injuries at the scene and released.

The crash marks St. Croix County's 14th recorded traffic fatality of 2023.
