ST PAUL, Minn. — A demonstration that moved onto I-94 in St. Paul on Wednesday afternoon led to closures of the freeway during the evening rush hour.
The demonstration closed westbound lanes of I-94 near Western Avenue starting around 6 p.m. Wednesday.
According to Teshite Wako, a Commissioner for the City of Brooklyn Park, the demonstration is related to the killing of Hachalu Hundessa, an Ethiopian singer and activist. Hundessa was shot dead in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, Monday night.
By 7:15 p.m., the group had largely congregated on the freeway near Lexington Avenue.
Metro Transit also tweeted that the closure was prompting its I-94 buses to detour and delay.
