Driver dead after semis collide in southern Minnesota

The state patrol said the driver of one truck jackknifed on southbound I-35 in snowy and icy conditions, and the other truck ran into the first truck's trailer.

FREEBORN COUNTY, Minn. — A Twin Cities truck driver is dead after colliding with another semi near the Iowa border Monday night in snowy and icy conditions.

The Minnesota State Patrol says 62-year-old Bradley Dean Oachs of Rosemount was southbound on I-35 in Freeborn County when he collided with the trailer of a semi that had jackknifed in front of him. Oachs was rushed to a hospital in Albert Lea where he was pronounced dead from his injuries.

Investigators say the 34-year-old driver of the first truck was uninjured, as was a 37-year-old passenger.

All those involved in the wreck were wearing seat belts. Troopers on the scene say the interstate was covered with snow and ice at the time of the crash.

Motorists across the state are asked to use caution, as a winter storm system drops multiple inches of snow and increasing winds promise to impact visibility for much of Tuesday.
