MINNEAPOLIS — A key downtown Minneapolis on-ramp to Interstate 35W is reopening two years ahead of schedule.
MnDOT says the ramp from 4th Avenue and 10th Street to I-35W southbound is expected to reopen by 3 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 26. It was originally expected to be closed for two more years.
The ramp will still be closed sometimes on a short-term basis, but MnDOT says it should be mostly open for the rest of the multi-year project.
That extensive project, labeled by MnDOT as the "35W@94 Downtown to Crosstown project," started in the summer of 2017 and will continue until fall of 2021.
Crews are currently in stage four of the five-stage project. That means between summer of 2019 and fall of 2020, we'll see:
- SB I-35W to 46th St. ramp closing
- I-35W and I-94 lane reductions continue
- Local road work with lane reductions and closures continues
This week specifically, watch for the following road closures:
- 10 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 26 through 5 a.m. Friday, Sept. 27
- EB I-94 is closed between I-394 and I-35W
- 10 p.m. Friday, Sept. 27 through 5 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28
- SB I-35W is closed between I-94 and Hwy 62
