Crash in Lake Elmo construction zone leaves teen driver dead, 2 passengers injured

The Minnesota State Patrol says the 17-year-old driver was ejected after driving into the construction zone and hitting a pile of dirt.

LAKE ELMO, Minn. — A single-vehicle crash in a construction zone has claimed the life of a teen from Roseville.

The Minnesota State Patrol says a 17-year-old male was driving westbound on Highway 36 in Lake Elmo around 3:30 a.m. when he entered a closed-off construction area and struck a pile of dirt.

Troopers say the vehicle rolled and the teen driver was ejected. He was not wearing a seat belt.

Two passengers in the SUV, ages 16 and 17, suffered non-life threatening injuries and were rushed to Regions Hospital for treatment.

At this point the State Patrol website says it is unknown whether alcohol or drugs were involved in the fatal crash.
