MEDFORD, Minnesota — The Minnesota State Patrol tweeted Wednesday evening that Interstate 35 was back open after it had to be shut down because of so many crashes due to the snowstorm.
MnDOT has been advising no travel for several areas across the region because of hazardous driving because of the snow and wind.
Drivers were asked to avoid Interstate 35 from Medford to Faribault after heavy snow caused dozens of crashes.
MnDOT said a four-mile stretch was closed for hours.
Fortunately no serious injuries were reported.
Plows were sent to clear the snow off the road and get the traffic moving.
The State Patrol reports that from 8:00 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday, there have been 244 crashes, 208 vehicle spin outs and 18 jackknifed semis.
MnDOT also called for no travel in Lyon, Murray, Pipestone and Redwood Counties, as well as Lincoln County south of Highway 19, parts of U.S. Highway 59, Highway 23 and Highway 68 in Yellow Medicine County. The no-travel advisories were lifted at 3:15 p.m. on Wednesday.
