ST PAUL, Minn. — A pedestrian is dead and police are investigating after a fatal incident at a St. Paul intersection Monday morning.
St. Paul police posted on X (formerly known as Twitter) that the driver of a pickup was headed east on W. 7th St. around 7:30 a.m. when they struck a person on foot trying to cross the road at W. Maynard Drive.
Preliminary information indicates that the driver had a green light and the pedestrian was crossing against a red when the collision occurred. The person on foot died from their injuries. The pedestrian was later identified as 69-year-old Bekele Yrnbab of St. Paul.
Police say the pickup driver stopped and is cooperating with the investigation.
