Police investigate double fatal crash involving motorcycle in Blaine

Investigators say the driver of a vehicle headed east 125th Avenue turned in front of a motorcycle headed westbound, killing both the rider and his passenger.

BLAINE, Minn. — Police in the North Metro are investigating what led to a crash late Tuesday involving a car and motorcyclist that claimed two lives.

It happened just before 9 p.m. on 125th Avenue NE just west of Highway 65 in the city of Blaine. The Anoka County Sheriff's Office says the driver of a sedan was headed eastbound on 125th when she turned north in front of the oncoming motorcycle. Responding officers found the driver of the motorcycle dead on the scene and his female passenger critically injured. That woman was airlifted to a local hospital where she also died.

The driver of the sedan was also transported to the hospital, and was listed in stable condition as of Wednesday morning.

Investigators closed a stretch of 125th Avenue for at least a mile while police reconstructed the crash and removed the vehicles involved.

It is unclear at this point whether charges will be filed in the fatal crash.

KARE 11 contacted Blaine police and will post additional details on this story as they become available.
