Here are the big road projects that could affect Fishing Opener and Mother's Day travel

From road resurfacing to rebuilding bridges, expect lane closures or detours in parts of the state.

ST PAUL, Minn. — Thousands of Minnesotans will be hitting the roads this weekend for the annual Minnesota Fishing Opener and Mother's Day.

Before starting your road trip, here's a look at some of the big highway construction projects happening across the state that you could encounter this weekend or throughout the summer, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT).

Highway 10 in Anoka

Watch for lane closures and limited access to connecting streets as crews work to replace traffic signals with interchanges.

Highway 10/Highway 23 interchange in St. Cloud

Watch for lane closures as crews work to repair and replace the interchange between the two highways on the east side of St. Cloud.

Highway 23 from New London to Paynesville

A portion of Highway 23 is closed from May 1 through Oct. 27 as MnDOT works to expand the highway to four lanes. Traffic is detoured onto Highway 55 from Paynesville to Regal, and on County Highway 2.

Highway 52 in southeastern Minnesota

Look for potential lane closures and traffic cones along two stretches of the highway, between Rosemount and Hampton and between Zumbrota and Cannon Falls, during ongoing resurfacing and repair work.

Highway 169 in Elk River

Portions of the highway are reduced to one lane through Nov. 1 as MnDOT continues a multi-year project to replace traffic signals with interchanges.

I-35 near North Branch

Northbound lanes of I-35 are reduced to one lane from Exit 139 in North Branch to Exit 117 in Rock Creek.

I-35 & I-535 interchange in Duluth

The ongoing Twin Ports Interchange project involves several ramp closures, including exits from I-35 to Highway 53 and I-535. Traffic heading to Superior, Wisconsin is detoured over the Richard Bong Bridge along Highway 2.
