ST PAUL, Minn. — Nothing can screw up best-laid plans like getting caught in a major traffic jam.
If you're venturing into downtown St. Paul Saturday, especially to attend an event at Xcel Energy Center, Saint Paul RiverCentre, Roy Wilkins Auditorium or somewhere nearby, driving or parking could be a major headache.
A number of events are taking place at the RiverCentre campus, including the Cinch World's Toughest Rodeo, the Classic Winter Spectacular Gymnastics Tournament and the 50th Anniversary of Minnesota and Norway's Reciprocal Troop Exchange. Throw in thousands that are expected for the 2023 Winter Carnival Torchlight Parade starting at 7:30 p.m., and you have the recipe for serious gridlock.
To avoid throwing a wrench in your plans, city leaders are advising folks heading into downtown Saturday late afternoon and evening to build in extra time, take alternative routes and utilize parking ramps and lots other than those associated with RiverCentre/Xcel Energy Center.
Here are some other suggestions.
Use the City of Saint Paul's free and interactive parking app. It includes information about on-and-off-street parking options, rates and more.
Make a day of it! Come to Saint Paul early to dine or shop.
Whenever possible, carpool or use ride-share services.
