MSP expects MEA week air travel boom

Staffers at MSP International Airport will be at ticketing levels in both Terminals 1 and 2, and also near TSA checkpoints to answer questions and assist travelers.

MINNEAPOLIS — It's not Thanksgiving or Christmas, but in Minnesota MEA weekend is a holiday of sorts with kids and their parents taking advantage of a couple extra days off to travel somewhere fun.

The folks at MSP International say MEA is actually one of the most popular and busy times for air travel (especially Wednesday and Thursday, Oct. 18 and 19) and are urging flyers to take a few steps to take stress levels down and make the experience more enjoyable. Staff will be stationed at the ticketing level at both Terminals 1 and 2, and also near TSA security checkpoints to answer questions and help passengers navigate the process.

Among the suggestions for MEA air travelers:

  • Arrive at the airport two hours before a domestic flight, and three hours for those traveling internationally.
  • Stay in touch with your airline and monitor changes in flight times or status.
  • Remember children under age 12 can leave their shoes, light jackets and headwear on to make the screening process less stressful.
  • Parking will be at a premium: Pre-booking your spot will help ensure you don't find spaces are sold out.
  • If you're just picking someone up from a flight, use MSP's complimentary Cell Phone Waiting Lot just off Post Road instead of driving around in circles.
