MSP International expands security line reservation program to main terminal

MSP Reserve allows air travelers to book a time for a security check for themselves and their companions. The program has been operating at Terminal 2 since 2023.

MINNEAPOLIS — A program that allows air travelers to book a time to go through security is being expanded at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport, after a successful trial run at Terminal 2.

MSP RESERVE has logged more than 50,000 reservations since being put into operation at the Humphry Terminal (Terminal 2) in May of 2023. The program allows travelers to book an appointment in the security line online as much as a week in advance by entering flight details, the number of passengers in the traveling party and the time they'd like to be screened.

Once they arrive at the airport, travelers will go to a specially designated MSP RESERVE security checkpoint lane, have a confirmation QR code scanned and then proceed through.

MSP is currently one of 18 airports in North America and Europe using the reservation program.

“We have seen strong adoption rates and growth in the program and are excited to make it available to all MSP passengers by bringing the program to Terminal 1,” said Scott Skramstad, Director of Terminal and Landside Operations for the Metropolitan Airports Commission (MAC), which owns and operates MSP. “Reserving a place in the security line can reduce wait time and add more certainty and peace of mind at the start of a traveler’s journey.”

Passengers flying out of Terminal 1 can now make security line reservations for flights between 3:45 a.m. and 7:45 p.m. beginning Sept. 17. The Terminal 1 MSP RESERVE lane will be located at the North Checkpoint.
