MINNEAPOLIS — Around seven Sun Country Airlines flights leaving MSP Tuesday before 1 p.m. were canceled, according to the the airline.
The cancellations were due to a pause in operations, so Sun Country's third-party supplier could install software, fixing issues that lead to dozens of cancellations the day before.
The system outage stranded hundreds of passengers nationwide and hit around a dozen flights before 8 a.m. Monday morning, just one day after a busy travel weekend.
Sun Country announced only one flight after 8 a.m. Monday, and before today's cancellations, was canceled due to an event unrelated to the system outage.
Sun Country is the latest airline to be hit with cancellations and delays in recent weeks. With an industry shortage and the omicron variant of COVID-19 impacting healthcare workers, Delta Airlines and United Airlines canceled thousands of flights around the nation.
The cancellations with Sun Country impacted domestic flights leaving before 8 a.m. CT. Monday and a few flights before 1 p.m. Tuesday
Sun Country, in an email to KARE 11, said "passengers were issued full refunds and waived change fees."
Despite the reported outages, Sun Country said it's working to make sure the rest of its flights take off.
"Currently, our Operations team is executing our approved manual process and working closely with the FAA to clear flights for takeoff," its emailed statement said on Monday. "We feel confident we’ll be able to successfully operate today’s remaining flights."
This is a developing story and will continue to be updated.
