Beautiful weather persists | 'Enjoy it while we have it'

KARE 11 meteorologist Ben Dery says temperatures are 20 degrees above normal.

PLYMOUTH, Minn. — Seventy degrees in November is a welcome treat, and on Wednesday, the Twin Cities might even break a record.

It was so warm Tuesday, the tennis courts in Golden Valley were full.

"I'm sure everybody's taking advantage of this weather," said player Kathy Cope. "It's beautiful out."

Cope is thankful she can still play outside, but it's a sport that will get her through what's coming next.

"Because we'll be inside for so long during winter, but hey, as long as the streets are clear and you can play inside, keeps you going," said Cope.

Winter won't be here until Dec. 21, but KARE 11 meteorologist Ben Dery says this Friday is usually when the first snow falls — except the temperature this year is some 20 degrees above average.

"This is just a little unusual for this time of year, but it will get cold, we will get snow," said Dery. "This is just a short-term weather pattern that really doesn't say what the rest of winter will look like."

Dery does note that November is typically when it rains and snows the least. That's on top of what was already an abnormally dry September and October.

"Eventually, we will inevitably pay for our sins; I mean, Mother Nature has a way of kind of correcting herself," said Dery.

"Just wait," says Susan Anderson. "Just wait."

Anderson knows the clock is ticking, much like the migrating birds that she's watching on Medicine Lake.

"Get outside; just be outside, find an excuse," said Anderson. She knows that the weather will change by next week, and with it, comes a new season that will bring its own beauty.

"I'm just enjoying not having a coat on right now," said Dery.
