GOLDEN VALLEY, Minn. — Peak wind gusts have already topped out in the 50+ mph range across western Minnesota, and the stormy swath generating them will work its way east throughout the day.
A wind advisory is in place for much of the state, including all of the metro, for wind gusts up to 55 mph at times.
Combined with the soggy and saturated ground, these winds are very capable of toppling trees and power poles, causing power outages or at the very least sending your garbage can and patio furniture flying down the street.
Driving in strong winds can also be dangerous, especially for those headed in the east-west direction today. Wind gusts out of the north-northwest could send you off course a bit or even topple high profile vehicles. Travel with caution.
As if the wicked winds weren't enough, rain showers will continue to fall into the midday hours before tapering off this afternoon, inching us ever closer to the 'wettest year in history' record. .
Besides windy and wet, its also pretty darn cold out there! Wind chills today remain consistently in the 30s for the metro, so bundle up in a combination of rain and winter gear.
