DULUTH, Minn. — Minnesotans may want to use caution with campfires and fireworks as dry conditions stretch into the Fourth of July holiday weekend.
According to the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR), "elevated burning restrictions" remain in place as of Friday, June 30 for northeastern Minnesota, including Carlton, Cook, Lake and St. Louis counties.
The DNR said "elevated burning restrictions" means no open burning is allowed; campfires are also banned in "dispersed, backcountry, backpacking and remote camping areas," which includes the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness.
Fireworks are also banned on both public and private property outside of regular city limits in northeastern Minnesota.
In all other areas of the state, permits are required for burning.
