DULUTH, Minn. — This winter is officially the snowiest on record in Duluth.

According to the National Weather Service office in Duluth, 137.1 inches of snow has fallen in the city of Duluth as of 7 a.m. on April 20. That additional overnight snowfall was enough to surpass the previous record of 135.4 inches of snow, set in the winter of 1995-96.

The record was set early Thursday morning as a band of mixed precipitation moved across northern Minnesota overnight, largely turning over to heavy snow.

The Twin Cities remains in the top three all-time snowiest seasons for this winter; 89.7 inches of snow has fallen in the metro as of early April, behind only the winters of 1981-82 (95 inches) and 1983-84 (98.6 inches of snow).

NWS Duluth says there's still time to add more to the record-setting snow total; the annual snow record books don't reset until June 30 each year.
