Cleanup after severe weather; EF-0 tornadoes reported in Dakota and Ramsey Counties

Survey teams with the National Weather Service have identified a total of six tornadoes that developed across Minnesota over the weekend.

MINNESOTA, USA — A survey by the National Weather Service (NWS) confirmed damage from multiple EF-0 tornados during Saturday and Sunday night's storms.

NWS says multiple brief EF-0 tornados ranging in max speeds of 75 to 85 mph touched down across Dakota County in Burnsville, Apple Valley, Eagan and West St. Paul before the storm front headed into Ramsey County on Saturday, where an additional EF-0 tornado was reported with a max wind speed of 75mph and a 3.4-mile path.

This lattermost tornado charted a course from an area near the intersection of I-94 and Hwy 10 through Harding High School, and then on to Goodrich Golf Course, where the tornado reportedly lifted.

The National Weather Service also confirmed there was a sixth brief tornado near Prinsburg in Kandiyohi County Sunday evening during a second round of storms.

In some cases, trees were reported uprooted or snapped, and several communities were left to deal with the aftermath.

KARE 11's Jason Rantala was in Apple Valley, where clean up began almost immediately Saturday night, near where a tree fell onto a mobile home just east of Cedar Avenue.

As day broke Sunday, it revealed toppled trees around the nearby Cedar Knolls community.

Just south, Rantala reported a tree that fell near several apartments, damaging patios.

"Most of the damage we've seen has been isolated to mostly trees, some trees we have seen fallen really close to structures, but we haven't seen any major damage of structures," said Melissa Dye, a meteorologist with the National Weather Service. "We look at the direction the trees fell. With a tornado, they're going to be in one direction."
