How much rain did we get from Monday's deluge?

A stationary band that stretched from the northwest suburbs across the metro to Stillwater dropped between 2 and 4 inches in some areas.

CHANHASSEN, Minn. — It was one of those days.

The rain started early Monday across much of Minnesota and just kept going.

And going.

And... going.

KARE 11's John Ziegler says a strong August low front moved in Monday morning from South Dakota, bringing with it widespread rain and storms that pretty much kept up all day. A stationary boundary focused on the north side of the metro, running along 94 up to St. Cloud and Alexandria.

Without the boundary moving much, Ziegler explains, showers developed and the same areas were rained on ALL DAY LONG. The result was between 2 and 4 inches in a band across the north metro, from Elk River to Blaine and beyond.

Here are some reported rain totals from central Minnesota:

  • Alexandria - 4.11 inches
  • St. Joseph - 3.1
  • Paynesville - 2.9
  • St. Cloud - 2.37
  • Sartell - 2.18

Totals reported in the northern and northwest suburbs:

  • Rogers - 3.81 inches
  • Maple Grove - 3.57
  • Plymouth - 3.03
  • Brooklyn Park - 2.82
  • Corcoran - 2.76
  • Crystal - 2.75
  • Coon Rapids - 2.42

Rain in the northeast suburbs:

  • Shoreview - 2.99 inches
  • Arden Hills - 2.94
  • White Bear Lake - 2.79
  • Stillwater - 2.51

The south metro still got dumped on, but totals were cut in half without the training storms. Most places from Chaska to Prior Lake and Lakeville saw closer to an inch or inch and a half of rain.
